The exhibition and performance
division of Menace Publishing & Manufacture presents performance events
of all kinds, including plays, dramatic and poetry readings, musical performances,
dance and stuff that doesn't fit into any of those categories (but it's not
crap performance art, don't worry). We also organize "unlive" events,
like gallery shows of fine art works or photography.
Information on planned events and our current schedule of
events are listed below, as well as information about
having a Circus event planned for your space.
We're taking it to the streets ...
sort of. Okay, actually, we're taking it near the streets. In an effort to get
people to do more with our most impersonal public spaces, we're planning a series of
nighttime parking lot readings. Parking lots. Ever notice all that empty space in
the various business districts of your town? Around us, those lots empty out at around six
and pretty much stay that way until the following morning. We think that's kind of sick.
We're still looking for stores, businesses, or parking lot companies willing to give us
written permission to carry out our little plan ... so far, the ones we've contacted have
acted like we were all f'ed up on crack when we told them what we wanted to do. Kind of
sad, isn't it? If you've got a parking lot you'd like to donate, contact us.
Along those same lines, we're taking advantage of the open spaces municipalities set aside
for public use. Our Field Trip project will feature open air performance on
softball diamonds, basketball courts, public parks, and basically any place we can get
away with having a reading. Of course, we're going to try to schedule them around the
people who ordinarily use those spaces (what do you think it would do to our image if word
got out we were displacing little league games?) as much as possible.
Blair reads this March 18 at the Greenfield Village Resort in Mesa, AZ and on March 22nd at Troy's on the Park in St. Louis, MO. Call or email us here for more information, and check back often -- Blair maintains a vigorous reading schedule.
Interested
in having a Circus event in your space? So are we.
Whether you have something definite in mind
or you're not sure what sort of event you want to host, if you have a performance or
gallery space, you have our undivided attention.
Our most common events are readings of one sort or another. They're not that
complex to put together, and depending on the size of the space, we usually
don't need to bring equipment. Everyone loves an easy kill, but we're also hot
for those bigger, more complex projects -- plays, dramatic readings, performance
events (our director is dying to do a full-contact poetry reading, we just haven't
figured out what the hell he means by that yet). We're also eager to arrange
showings of talented fine artists and photographers, and we've got access to
quite a talent pool (ask us, go ahead, you know you want to). We'll work with
you to design an event tailored to your needs, so write or call us at the address or number below, or contact us through
email.
